Sidley’s New York office, located in the heart of the world’s financial center, has served the global business community for more than 90 years. With more than 340 lawyers, many of whom are highly proficient in other languages, the office reflects the unique diversity of New York and its status as a world city.
New York is the center of Sidley’s sophisticated capital markets practice, which has been recognized worldwide in the areas of securitization, structured finance, debt and equity offerings, and derivatives. New York corporate lawyers also represent clients in mergers and acquisitions; banking and commercial finance; investment, hedge, private equity and other investment funds; securities and broker-dealer regulation and enforcement; bankruptcy and restructuring; insurance; and real estate transactions. Other areas served by the office include art law, tax, trusts and estates, environmental, and life sciences.
Our New York office features a strong international component, representing domestic and foreign clients in cross-border transactions involving the European Union, China, Japan, India, Canada, Latin America, Australia and the Pacific Rim.
Sidley has a substantial litigation practice in New York and regularly handles high-stakes securities and SEC enforcement matters representing companies, financial services firms, professionals and individuals. A number of our lawyers in New York have held leadership roles in key government, industry and professional associations, including senior positions with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, National Association of Securities Dealers and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Grounded in the business community, New York’s litigation practice also encompasses accountants’ liability, antitrust, bankruptcy, commercial transactions, consumer class actions, employee benefits, employment and labor, lender liability, internal investigations, and white collar criminal defense. In addition, the firm litigates a full range of intellectual property matters involving patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, unfair competition and false advertising claims.
As part of Sidley’s commitment to community involvement, the New York office established an innovative extern program to support inMotion, Inc., a not-for-profit that provides free legal services to low-income, underserved and abused women in the New York metropolitan area. Sidley also devotes substantial time to such important New York organizations and institutions as New York Cares, Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Modern Art.
