Laterals
Sidley’s practice is broad and diverse, the client base sophisticated and varied. The firm has a national and international reputation for excellence in the practice of law. This excellence is reflected in Sidley’s commitment to providing a collegial, collaborative environment with an emphasis on continuing legal education, professional growth and career development.
The firm therefore provides an excellent opportunity for lawyers seeking a change in their professional environment. Our lateral hiring varies based on the needs of our offices and practice groups. We are always considering applications from laterals.
All lateral associates are hired with the hope and expectation that they will find working at Sidley a rewarding experience, and that in time they will be considered for partnership. As a benchmark for professional development and advancement toward partnership, associates are evaluated on a twice-yearly basis. The firm’s policy regarding advancement and compensation also includes:
- Performance-based salary distinctions for most mid-level and senior associates
- Bonuses that reflect and reward associates’ contributions to the firm
- Consideration for partnership on average of eight years after law school
