Tokyo

Sidley Austin has had a dynamic Japanese practice and a Tokyo office for more than ten years. In 2002, Sidley expanded the scope and prestige of our global Japanese practice when Tomoo Nishikawa joined us. Our Tokyo office, Sidley Austin Nishikawa Foreign Law Joint Enterprise, is located in the Marunouchi Building, which is situated in the center of Tokyo.

Our focus has always been to offer “one-stop service,” where clients can rely on a single law firm to provide necessary legal advice involving multiple jurisdictions.

Our Tokyo office currently has 15 bengoshi (five of whom are also U.S. qualified) and a U.S. qualified lawyer who provides various areas of laws including regulatory, cross-border litigation, pharmaceutical, labor/employment and international intellectual property.

Our global Japanese practice includes a team of more than 40 professionals who represent a significant number of highly recognized companies, both in Japan and worldwide. We are a leading international legal advisor in connection with cross-border capital markets transactions, securitizations, mergers and acquisitions and U.S. litigation involving Japanese companies and financial institutions. Our team defends Japanese companies in connection with their commercial, product liability, intellectual property, patent and insurance litigation and commercial arbitration in the U.S. Our international trade team regularly advises Japanese companies and the Japanese government on a wide variety of international trade matters, including trade disputes, tariffs, customs, duties and WTO matters.

The breadth and depth of our practice reflects the enormous commitment we have made to serve our Japanese and global clients.
